American Idol Memphis Auditions Recap

As a whole, the Memphis auditions weren't that great. With a lot of editing and a lot less auditions being shown, I was kind of bored until I heard a few good singers. I believe I have found my favorite contestant out of American Idol Season 6. How about you?

First up, are my favorites from last night's show.

When we were first shown Sean Michel before he sang (whom just about everyone else thinks looks like Osama Bin Laden or a homeless guy) I told my husband, "You know he's going to end up being a great singer, right?". My husband said, "Probably". And then we heard his voice and I was very impressed. He is actually a great singer and so much better than I expected given his homely/unshaven look. This is the first singer of the season who actually gave me chills and you should check out his myspace page for more music. His music is along the christian/spiritual lines which might push some people away but it's amazing nonetheless.

I'm really surprised by the amount of negative comments other viewers are displaying online. Seriously. Are you for real? Can you all hear? How about looking past his less than traditional looks?

With that being said, I can look past his looks but can American Idol and the viewers? How far will Sean Michel go? If he doesn't make it on American Idol you can guarantee that he will get a record deal somewhere. He's too good not to. And there you have it, I am officially obsessed with my first season 6 contestant. Sean Michel all the way...

Up next on my likes list, is Sundance Head. Wow. He's a great singer. Almost perfect..but he's lacking something here... Will he be a good performer on stage?

It looks like an early favorite is, Phil Stacy, the guy who's wife gave birth while he was auditioning. What a story. Although he is an early favorite contestant among many, I didn't think he was THAT good. He was ok but something was wrong with his voice. Maybe he was singing through his nose a little??? I don't know but being the sentimentalist that I am he has my vote, at least for now...

On to the bad ones...

Well, there were far more bad than good but let's highlight the worst two from Memphis.

Tamika Simms, the 16 year old who sang Ashanti. Was she hungover? She looked kind of sick to me. She seriously could not sing and I still have no idea what she was trying to say and I'm not so sure that anyone else knows what she said either. Overall, the judges weren't too bad on her. Good for them.

Travis "Emotional" McKinney, the guy who was just going to be so emotional during his audition. Well, he ended up being so BAD. What was that talking/dance/rap thing that he did?

That's all I have for now...Stop by tommorow for my recaps and commentary. Will I have a new favorite? Or will Sean Michel still have his #1 fan?

And stop by Blender.com's blog today for my IM interview with Ryan and the other AI panelists.
