I'll do a recap once I get some names straight...

Brandy Does Birmingham...
Tonight's auditions in Alabama were a bit lacking in true entertainment value. When you have to resort to a 50 year old woman pretending to be 26 dressed up as big bird you've definitely got problems? And, that long segment with the like-a-virgin Brandy was a bit much don't ya think? Instead of dragging out that mess they could have shown us a few more of those that got through to the hollywood round.
First up was Erica Skye. Bye the way, I just have to throw in here that her accent is quite like mine. I kep thinking she was saying scat instead of skye. Anyway, she wasn't the worst person I've ever heard audition but she wasn't good either. Too bad.
Katie Bernard...um, I don't like her "speaking" voice. I won't be able to take much of it. Surely we won't be seeing her past the hollywood round.
Tatiana. Wow. A good, strong singer but there's not really anything special about her that at this point makes me think she could be the next American Idol.
Jamie Lynn Ward, the girl with the overly dysfunctional family story line. I'm just wondering why Daddy's not in prison? And, am I the only one who kept thinking about the little girl Sheryl (played by the now big girl Hayden Panettiere) in Remember the Titans, when she said, " In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, it's bigger than Christmas day. My daddy coached in Alexandria, he worked so hard my momma left him, but I stayed with coach, he needed me on that field". Think Jamie is the new Kellie Pickler? Well, we don't have to worry about her not getting any votes now do we? She's got the guy vote I'm sure with that look.
Chris Sligh. He's got a great personality and a great voice. There's something about him that's likeable. I think he will do very very well in this competition. Could he possibly be the next American Idol?
The worst audition of the night with a bit of entertainment thrown in was Brandy, of course.
Ok, that's about all I've got for the night. Tune in for tomorow night's recap in Texas or California? Which is it?

Who is Kia Thortnon?
Aside from seeing the very talented Kia Thornton audition on American Idol this season, I've never heard of her before. However, apparently she was once famous and had some hit songs which is causing a stir among American Idol fans. How many of you remember the group, Divine, that she was in? Do you remember the songs from way back in 1998? I certainly DO NOT.
I was reading Idol Chatter today when I came across this latest development and wanted to see what everyone thought of it here but first I'll share my quick and to the point thoughts. I see no problem with her being on American Idol. A few others in similar situations have been on the show before. Besides, she is working for a cell phone company for crying out loud (atleast for now...don't know how long that will last). So, give her a chance.
On to my readers, should she have been allowed to audition for American Idol? Isn't American Idol for amateurs? What's your take?
And, if you don't want to see any spoilers then don' t continue reading....
Unfortunately, Kia Thorton doesn't make it past the Hollywood round. You can read the whole story here. It doesn't say exactly why but it MAY have something to do with that original record deal and very brief hit songs.

Katherine McPhee Music is Free

I was contacted by AOL yesterday to share that you can go to Aol and listen to Katherine McPhee's entire CD online for free at her "listening party". The cd is also available for purchase today.
While I'm not a fan of Mcphee, I'm happy to pass along any freebies I come upon.
I'm not sure how long this freebie music will last so if you want to hear her songs you better go now.

Idol Season Six Winner?
Which contestant as of right now do you think has the potential to be the next American Idol winner? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
If you can't come up with a winner then how about some favorites?
My favorite American Idol season six contestants at this point are:
Sean Michel
Rachel Zevita
Chris Richardson
Sanjaya Malakar
Phillip Stacy (purely from the story line..I don't think he's that good of singer. Seriously, what mom in America is NOT going to like this guy? He's definitely got the mom vote!)
Antonella Barba
Michelle Steingas
This is in no way my final favorites..just my current favorites as of right now. I'll have a better idea of who I'm really rooting for once all auditions are over and the top 40 contestants are announced. There are rumors as to who those top 40 are but I won't believe anything for sure until the top 40 are announced on the show...
Oh, and a BIG thanks to DJ Slim from Idolbloglive.com and Dave from DaveonDemand.com (the author of the book Dying To Be Famous that I was reading about earlier this week on another blog and would LOVE to read) for humoring me and playing along with my comment game. You guys are #1!

Chris Daughtry To Give Free Concert
Chris Daughtry(and his band Daughtry) are performing a free concert in Greensboro North Carolina near his hometown on March 23rd, 2007.
Chris Daughtry was a favorite from American Idol season five.
Are you going to a Daughtry concert anytime soon?

American Idol blogger comment game
Ok, so it's Friday (Yay!) and I'm finally over being sick, I think. To celebrate it being the weekend and me having nothing to do, I came up with an not-so-unique idea to get to know the other American Idol bloggers and to get us all communicating more. Does that sound fun? Pathetic? Interesting? Hello?
Here's how the comment game will work:
Leave a comment here on my blog saying that you are playing along. Make sure you include the link to you American Idol blog. It doesn't have to be a blog solely about American Idol. You can be an AI fan but you do need to have a blog to play along. Anyway. Then go visit the person above you in the comment section. Leave a comment relating to American Idol then tell them you are playing the American Idol comment game. Feel free to post about this comment game on your own blog and I hope we can all get to know each other more...and maybe even find another idol blog or two that we like. :)
I'll be visiting all of the blogs that participate and I will add you to my list of American Idol bloggers in one big post.
So, come on, humor me(=Do something for me even when it seems stupid, ok), and play along...
Comment game begins now and will end Sunday night at 10pm EST.

New York Auditions. Best Overall So Far?
New York. New York. On my list of places to travel but somehow we always end up at the beach every year... hmmm...
My 5 1/2 year old son (let's call him Bam) finally sat down and watched American Idol with me last night. Last year he was fascinated with the singing. This year not so much. He say's they are all "crapola". You think it's because he's normally belting out lyrics from Adema? He goes around the house singing(or, um, screaming), "...I know who you are, the leader of lost souls...you can't kill me...I'm immortal...". Bam did make a comment about liking Nicholas Pedro, however... hmmm...
Ok, on to the auditions. Since New York actually had quite a few decent auditions I really can't just pick two to highlight like I have been doing so I'll just comment on a few extra, ok.
Jenry. Well, it's safe to say that Jenry is a cutie. Definitely looks older than 16 and sings older songs too. I think the girls will like him. Paula certainly does. Sorry, Paula, he's too young for you. And, he can sing really really well. He has a chance to go far in this competition. If not, I'm sure we will see him in a GAP or Calvin Klein ad.
Rachel Zevita. She's definitely different but has an amazing voice and she proved that she really can sing anything. She's perfect for American Idol.
Antonella Barba- Part two of the best friends duo. She sang much better than her friend and actually she sang quite well BUT she's too cookie-cutter. I guess that's the way American Idol likes them.
Chris Richardson. Good looks. Good singing. I think he will do well. However, he does NOT look like Justin Timberlake. Seriously.
Now on to the bad ones...
Isadora & Ian...Wow. They were horrid. Enough said...

Sean Michel Fan Club

Looking around on the various idol blogs and forums today, and it's looks like we've got ourselves an unofficial "Official Sean Michel "Castro's Friends" fan club. You can see the fan listing right here. Wow, he's got quite a following already and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. Count me in!
Sean Michel (castro, jesus, osama or whatever you may call him) is superstar material.
Do you think he will change his looks for Hollywood? He seems like the kind of guy who won't change who he is for American Idol but we will see soon enough. I just hope he goes far...idol or no idol.
Don't forget to check me out over at Blender.com I definitely talked about Sean Michel over there. How could I not?

American Idol Memphis Auditions Recap
As a whole, the Memphis auditions weren't that great. With a lot of editing and a lot less auditions being shown, I was kind of bored until I heard a few good singers. I believe I have found my favorite contestant out of American Idol Season 6. How about you?
First up, are my favorites from last night's show.
When we were first shown Sean Michel before he sang (whom just about everyone else thinks looks like Osama Bin Laden or a homeless guy) I told my husband, "You know he's going to end up being a great singer, right?". My husband said, "Probably". And then we heard his voice and I was very impressed. He is actually a great singer and so much better than I expected given his homely/unshaven look. This is the first singer of the season who actually gave me chills and you should check out his myspace page for more music. His music is along the christian/spiritual lines which might push some people away but it's amazing nonetheless.
I'm really surprised by the amount of negative comments other viewers are displaying online. Seriously. Are you for real? Can you all hear? How about looking past his less than traditional looks?
With that being said, I can look past his looks but can American Idol and the viewers? How far will Sean Michel go? If he doesn't make it on American Idol you can guarantee that he will get a record deal somewhere. He's too good not to. And there you have it, I am officially obsessed with my first season 6 contestant. Sean Michel all the way...
Up next on my likes list, is Sundance Head. Wow. He's a great singer. Almost perfect..but he's lacking something here... Will he be a good performer on stage?
It looks like an early favorite is, Phil Stacy, the guy who's wife gave birth while he was auditioning. What a story. Although he is an early favorite contestant among many, I didn't think he was THAT good. He was ok but something was wrong with his voice. Maybe he was singing through his nose a little??? I don't know but being the sentimentalist that I am he has my vote, at least for now...
On to the bad ones...
Well, there were far more bad than good but let's highlight the worst two from Memphis.
Tamika Simms, the 16 year old who sang Ashanti. Was she hungover? She looked kind of sick to me. She seriously could not sing and I still have no idea what she was trying to say and I'm not so sure that anyone else knows what she said either. Overall, the judges weren't too bad on her. Good for them.
Travis "Emotional" McKinney, the guy who was just going to be so emotional during his audition. Well, he ended up being so BAD. What was that talking/dance/rap thing that he did?
That's all I have for now...Stop by tommorow for my recaps and commentary. Will I have a new favorite? Or will Sean Michel still have his #1 fan?
And stop by Blender.com's blog today for my IM interview with Ryan and the other AI panelists.

On Parent's Responsibility and American Idol
First of all let me say that I'm obviously a big fan of American Idol since I created this blog. I love all parts of the show and I don't care what the producers do to make the show successful (unless it involves being mean to a person with a disability and then showing it on TV). With that being said, and apologies already taken place I think everyone should go ahead and get over that whole ordeal. Overall, it's up to the parents to educate their children on the American Idol audition process and to make them understand the whole situation.
American Idol is in its 6th season and they've done the same thing every year and with the success that American Idol has now, I really don't think they are going to be changing their formula anytime soon. I know you all have heard this throughout the week and probably would rather not hear it again but I'm talking about it anyway.
Being a parent myself, I wonder why the parents of those untalented singers who auditioned for American Idol were even allowed to do so. What were the parents thinking? Were these parents just as deluded as their child or did the parents just think of it as possibly a fun learning experience for their child?
Sure, when we are interested in something we should try but when it comes to national TV, in my opinion, only bad things can come of it. And, who’s to blame when your child is hurt from being told no or ridiculed in front of millions of people? Of course, you are. I’m not saying that we should not encourage our children to try out for things. My specific concern is when “trying out” is in front of millions of people rather than a few judges or classmates. There is a big difference here.
It is the responsibility of the parents to set limits for their children under certain circumstances. A line has to be drawn somewhere. No matter how much we want to think we can do anything sometimes that’s just not the case. We all want to tell our kids that “the sky is the limit” and that all their dreams can come true if only they believe and set their mind to it but in reality some dreams just don’t come true. I hate to say this as a parent but there are some limits in life. There are some things that just aren’t going to go your way. Such a small percentage of the population becomes a pop star, actor, or a professional sports player.
I love to sing but I don’t think (besides the whole I’m too old thing) I’m American Idol material. The only place I’ll be singing in the near future is in my shower or to my kids. The average person should do the same rather than get on TV and make a fool of themselves…unless that’s their form of entertainment. Singing is fun. Singing is cathartic but singing in front of millions of people is NOT for everyone.
Furthermore, I just don’t get this obsession that everyone has with wanting to be famous even at the cost of being made fun of. Is that the direction we really want our children to go in?
In the end, we all just want the best for our children. We want our children to be happy, successful, and we want them to go through life without needing therapy.
Also, I’m not saying American Idol is wrong nor am I saying auditioning for American Idol is wrong but I do think kids need to be educated on what’s involved when it comes to auditioning for a TV production. That has nothing to do with American Idol or it's producers and everything to do with the parent.
My final comment on this is a question(s).
Would you give permission or encourage your child to try out for American Idol if you knew for sure that they could not sing well enough to be on the show? Why or why not? I’d love to hear some opinions on this. What if your child was over the age of 18, who at this age can obviously make their own decisions, would you try and talk them out of it or give them advice? And, kids, if you wanted to try out for American Idol but your parents said no what would you do?
*USA Today's Idol Chatter has some really good food for thought in their comment section. Check it out if here you havent already.

American Idol Auditions Season 6
I haven't had the chance to do a complete run down of the American Idol auditions for season 6. However many blogs have been able to do that ands I'll post some other American Idol links for you to go to if you want a recap of the idol auditions so far. Some of the American Idol bloggers even do live blogging through the episodes. Um, I'm not that motivated as of yet. ;)
It looks like Judge Jru is doing a great job of recaps for the auditions as well as IdolBlogLive.com. Here are his recaps for Minneapolis and Seattle. As if these two American Idol bloggers need any more publicity. ;)
We are two episodes in American Idol and auditions have taken place in Minneapolis and Seattle. Seattle being deemed the worst city ever. Auditions continue tomorrow night in Memphis and then New York on Wednesday. I'm wondering if we will see any successful contestants from Kentucky this year.
Who's anticipating Tuesday night auditions?

Kenneth & Jonathan on the Today Show
Possibly the most talked about contestants of American Idol season 6, Kenneth Swale & Jonathan Jayne, were on the Today Show this morning. I normally don't get a chance to sit down and actually watch the show but today I sat down for a few minutes to see what these guys had to say.
Here is the link to the check out the video of them on the show.
Do you think they will get a movie deal out of this?

Chris Daughtry Performing National Anthem Video
If you missed him performing...
I found the video of Chris Daughtry, American Idol Season 5 top 10 Contestant and my personal favorite, performing the National Anthem at the NFC Championship yesterday.
He did a great job and yes, I agree, it looked quite cold.

Is American Idol More Heartless This Year?
After watching the first two episodes of American Idol Season 6, I have to say that the judges as well as the producers are somewhat heartless this year. Sure, the funny parts and the criticism makes the show what it is but shouldn't they draw the line somewhere?
The big thing that got me this year that I think was awfully cruel was the way some of the mildly retarded/mentally disabled individuals were treated. How is that funny? I honestly did not laugh at many of those auditions.
I'm sure alot of it has to do with how the producers put the show together and I'm also sure that most of these hopefuls knew what they were getting into before it started but still...
What do all of you think? Is this all for fun? Is it just part of the show and its ok? Chime in please.
In an article on yahoo the Fox network chief says they are not being cruel and that there was no gracious way to say no. Read the rest of the story here
Well, it's one thing to say NO to someone who cannot sing but its another when you say NO along with you look like a monkey or a lemur or whatever Simon thought that one untalented little guy (Kenneth?) looked like. Thoughts?

Sanjaya Malakar... Top 20 American Idol Material?
Sanjaya Malakar and his sister, Shyamali, are by far my favorite two so far of this season. I know we are only two episodes in but they are still that good...
What do you think of Sanjaya and Shyamali? Top 20 material? I think these two are PERFECT for American Idol this year but do they have the IT factor that Simon ALWAYS rambles on about? Do they need it? Talk to us. Comment.

The Girl Behind Blogging AI...
I started up this Blogging American Idol blog only a few shorts weeks ago. I've never actually created a blog solely for entertainment purposes until now and this is it. American Idol is my guilty pleasure along with Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, Lost & Nip/Tuck.
During the day, I wipe butts(I'm sure you are just so thrilled that I shared that tidbit), play with hotwheels, read a gazillion books, and play xbox with my darling two young boys, future Bam Marjera (5) and Baby Picasso(2). My daily life is nothing short of chaotic with working from home and homeschooling. I own several websites and blogs. Most of them being mother/parenting oriented. I'm married to an amazing super smart football-crazy man who is currently working towards his PHD (Dr) in CIS.
I don't claim to be an entertainment writer nor am I very good with grammar so you'll just have to ignore all that and just stick with me for my Kentucky/Southern charm. And, seriously, can't I just get a break on this "hobby" blog of mine?
Stick around for my commentary and Idol fan opinions for the 2007 season six of American Idol.
Signed,
A

Kelly Pickler on The View
Kelly Pickler was actually on my "like" list last season. Alot of you didn't like her or just plain made fun of her because of where she was from and well, her accent. I still like her except for that whole Prom Dress thing. Who wears stuff like that? ...Um, apparently every girl in her small town. I think thats just the style these days for proms. The more you show the better. It's a good thing I don't have a little girl.
And now Kelly is going on to guest host on "The View". She will be guest hosting this coming Friday morning. Good for her!
Do you think Kelly Pickler is a good guest host for the view? Why or why not?

Season 6 Episode 1: Who Doesn't Suck?
Tonight's first episode was actually kind of disappointing. Two hours later and only two singers were memorable. Seriously.
Of course there were a few more than two good singers but that's just it, they were only good.
My top two picks for the night were Perla (the one who looked like Shakira..definitely NOT a bad thing) and the country singing girl, Michelle Steingas.
The worst two of the night were sadly the vocal coach, Stephen H., and Jason, the young little guy with the sticks/juggling and not so awesome dancing skills. Too bad...
Overall, I didnt laugh that much tonight compared to the usual season openers. But I'm thinking tomorrow's episode in Seattle (based on the previews) is going to change that.
* Come back tomorow night for more commentary...

Does Anyone Really HATE American Idol?
I've been watching American Idol for a while now. I'll admit, however, that I did not watch the entire 1st season and I did miss the 2nd season finale due to moving but other than that I think it's safe to say that when American Idol is on, I'm watching it. Of course, last year I had to switch back and forth between Lost & American Idol since we still don't have tivo (and it doesn't look like we will be getting it anytime soon). Good thing Lost switched to a later hour recently, huh?
With last year's season being the biggest ever and over 30 million viewers a night, American Idol haters have to be far and few between. Seriously, who wouldn't like American Idol? It's music( even if the music does suck sometimes) people and it's downright funny! How could you not like that combination? But, if you still hate it, tell me why? I'd like to hear from all of you American Idol haters out there? What exactly turns you off about the show? Comment please!
***Don't forget American Idol Season 6 Starts tonight! And come back tonight for show recaps and commentary. If you've got an opinion(who doesn't?) we want to hear it.
